Idlewells says 'thanks' for shopping local

Idlewells Shopping Centre has just launched a campaign to thank customers for their loyalty to Sutton, to compliment its recent series of free giveaway-days during peak times.

The busy shopping centre's management team has been giving out an increasing amount of gifts to visitors of its family-based Crafty Monkey workshops for several years now, but following an exceptionally well recieved promotion on Valentine's Day, the management team has decided to continue offering their thanks - and explain why.

Said Chloe O'Donnell, Centre Manager, "Like most shopping centres across the UK, we set aside funds to provide activities and events for customers whilst they are here. As we all know, you rarely get something for nothing these days, so we've decided to buck the trend and use some of that budget for simply saying 'thank you' for coming in and supporting us, our retailers and the town centre!"

Recently, Idlewells gave away a 50 pence coin on a small Valentine's card to 900 visitors as part of a Valentines promotion, and Mother's Day saw hundreds of bunches of daffodils handed out to surprised shoppers.

"Customers find it hard to believe they are getting something for nothing, and its a delight to see their faces when they realise our gifts have no stings attached." Continued Chloe.

By shopping local, Idlewells' campaign points out, shoppers are supporting local businesses by buying their products or services, helping to create jobs to keep the shops staffed and stocked and, less obviously, attracting more big-named stores to Sutton.

"We occasionally get criticism from visitors to Idlewells, that there aren't many of the bigger high street names in the centre.  Within this campaign we would like to help people to understand that, the more they shop the more likely it is that the big name shops will want to come and trade here. The big stores will happily go wherever the demand is."

During Easter weekend (14th and 15th April), Idlewells will be holding a giveaway-day on Good Friday, and on Easter Saturday there will be a free chocolate egg-shy available. Anyone can have a go at knocking the giant eggs of their stands to win an Easter Egg - or a more traditional shy prize of a fresh coconut!
