Sutton's 'Fantastic Female', Barbara Yemm, cut the ribbon to the Idlewells Shopping Centre's extended Bonmarché store at 10am this morning, as it opened its doors to an eagerly awaiting crowd.

The title of 'Fantastic Female' was up for grabs for anyone who felt they, or someone they know, was deserving of a little recognition - and a little treat from one of the Idlewells' most popular ladieswear stores.

Barbara was nominated by her daughter, Jo, as well as five others, when Bonmarché announced it was seeking a 'special local lady' to receive £100 to spend and a bouquet of flowers to celebrate its launch day.

"Mum is always helping folk," said Jo. "She cleans for an elderly man who lives locally, fetches and carries, and does allsorts for anyone really." Jo put her mum's name forward, as she said, Barbara would never think to seek reward herself.

Jo's nomination email read:

"As soon as I saw this competition I knew I had to nominate my mum Barbara Yemm.

For as long as I can remember my mum has worked within a care role, looking after peoples relatives and giving her all in making sure they had the best quality of life. But this wasn't my mum's only job, after my dad walked out leaving my mum to bring up 3 children and pay for everything we needed, she stepped up and still with a smile on her face and a "nothing is too much" attitude she gave her all to make sure us kids had a brilliant childhood. My mum didn't stop there, once we were old enough to look after ourselves my mum spent her time helping even more people. Cleaning for a friend with limited mobility and also helping an elderly gentleman, taking him to and from church every Sunday, preparing meals and supporting him on day trips to derby as he is unable to go on his own. I could go on forever about my mum but if there is one word I would use to describe how she makes me feel, it's "Lucky" I definitely landed on my feet having a mum like mine."

Barbara chose her free Bonmarché clothes in about 3 minutes flat, and then cut the ribbon with around 30 regular Bonmarché customers watching eagerly on.

Manager of Idlewells Shopping Centre, Chloe O'Donnell said, "It's fantastic that Bonmarché is investing so much into Sutton, that's all credit to the commitment of Manager Shelley, her team and the many loyal customers who have supported us and Bonmarché over the years.

The feedback from visitors this morning has been wonderful to hear, everyone's so thrilled with the whole look and feel of the store, and the many more ranges from the Bonmarchés collection that they wouldn't previously have had enough space for!"

During the opening day, vouchers providing a 10% discount, valid until the end of the month, were given out as record numbers of shoppers enjoyed their taste of this new improved store.
