Idlewells Shopping Centre’s well-known ‘Super-Fundraiser’, Alan Hupton, has announced he will be collecting for Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital permanently, following his involvement in the Centre’s One Great Day annual event last month.

Alan has been fundraising in Idlewells for seventeen years and, over a period of around 30 years, has raised significant amounts of money charities including for Guide Dogs for the Blind, Cancer Research and The British Heart Foundation. Alan recently reached a total collection in excess of £50,000 for Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance - in just five years of collecting for them.

Ready to take on the challenge for a new charity, Alan has opted to collect for Great Ormond Street via the shopping centres’ annual event - One Great Day.

Said Chloe O’Donnell, Idlewells’ Centre Manager, “Alan had helped us fundraise for a week last year, and had then expressed an interest in collecting for the children’s hospital on a more permanent basis.”

“Naturally we are thrilled to have him on board with our own efforts.” She continued. “Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital is an amazing charity, helping children and families from all over the UK. We are utterly delighted to continue to facilitate Alan’s incredible collecting for them.”

Chloe went on to acknowledge the generosity of shoppers, who continue to donate regularly through difficult economical times. “We are always amazed at how much local people are prepared to give to worthy causes. Alan is a well known face here and he has many, many regular donors who give generously each time they pass by.”

Said Alan “I am so grateful for all that the shopping centre has done for me over the years. By helping their fundraising it’s a way to say thank you.”

He continued, “I’m happy to be helping this worthwhile charity and help the children. I don’t like to think that there are children out there still, who will go through what I have over the years.” He concluded.

With Alan’s help, this year’s One Great Day event, held in June, raised over £1,200.00 for Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital.
